New Year, New (ani)Me

1/1/2018

You know what they say, “new year, new (ani)me.” While some are making their lists of New Years resolutions, I am compiling my list of what I need to watch. Here’s what I’m looking forward to in terms of anime for 2018.
Let’s not beat around the bush, 2018 is the year for sequels in anime. There are some massive titles that are bringing the anime community some of the most anticipated sequels in a long time. There’s no question I’m a fan of all things shonen, so pardon my bias, but here’s my list…

Boungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple
Studio Bones is set to release a full-length film of the ever-popular franchise, Bungo Stray Dogs. The film allegedly rehashes the first two seasons of the anime, while focusing more on the relationships between our beloved protagonists Atsushi Nakajima and Dazai Osamu and their opposing forces Ryunosuke Akutagawa and Chuya Nakahara. This film is set for release on March 3.

My Hero Academia, Season 3
There’s no question My Hero Academia is on the watch list of anime fans all across the globe – it’s one of the best new shonen titles out there! Season 3 plans to cover class 1-A’s school trip following the craziness surrounding their internships. Will our favorite class of heroes be able to enjoy some time off, or will the League of Villains strike again? We’ll find out in April!

Tokyo Ghoul: Re
Allow me a moment to fangirl, Tokyo Ghoul is perhaps one of my absolute favorite anime. Fans have been in an absolute drought since season two ended back in 2015. Tokyo Ghoul: Re picks up a few years after the raid on Anteiku while our favorite ghouls still fear detection from the CCG. I’ll be honest, I’m super excited to see how my favorite white-haired (white-black?) anime boy fares in this new season. Catch it in April!

Attack on Titan, Season 3
Attack on Titan was easily one of the most anticipated series last year after season two came back from a four-year hiatus. Anime fans were stunned to learn that the fate of our beloved band of soldiers (and titans) will be revealed just a year later. Attack on Titan is notorious for its nail-biting storylines and killer cliffhangers, thank the lord we won’t be left waiting too long. Don’t miss out on one of the most popular anime, season 3 will be released in July!

Free!, Season 3
Okay but how could I not include everybody’s favorite guilty pleasure? While there isn’t a whole lot out there about what the new season entails, many are hopeful it will give fans more insight into the ~college lives~ of our favorite swimmers. The only teaser is the tagline, “See you next stage!” I don’t know about you, but I will certainly be watching come July.

Playing Catch Up
While I’ll certainly be watching the new seasons of old titles as they are released this year, I still have some catching up to do! So many anime, so little time!! On my list for some classics that have slipped through the cracks for me this year are popular titles like One Punch Man, Hunter x Hunter, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Mob Psycho 100, and Black Clover. 2018 is already looking great in terms of anime, and I cannot wait to see what’s in store for us all. What are you planning on watching this season, or even this year? Be sure to let me know!
